Xbox One vs PS4 in 2014: Which Has the Best Games?

Xbox One vs PS4 in 2014: Which Has the Best Games?

The dust has settled on the launch of PS4 and Xbox One, and after mediocre launch lineups for both consoles it’s time to take a look at what’s coming next. This article will look at all the exclusives coming out over the first half of 2014, so you can make your decision as to which console is going to the best throughout the year (spoiler alert: it’s the Xbox One).

PlayStation 4

Sony’s flagship console doesn’t actually have any exclusives coming for a while: a good three months, in fact. That will change on March 21, with the launch of inFamous: Second Son, the latest instalment in the slightly-above-average inFamous series. You play as Delsin Rowe, a superhero who can absorb the powers of other superheroes. The game looks good graphically, but will the gameplay hold up? Only time will tell.

PS4’s big racing game, Driveclub, is also expected to launch in March, although no date has been set yet. We were unimpressed with the game when we had some hands on time last year, but hopefully it will have received a few tweaks since then.

Other than these two games, the release schedule is sparse. Jonathan Blow’s new puzzler, The Witness, will be coming out at some point in the summer, and Octodad: Dadliest Catch is also going to be out sometime in the next few months…but that’s pretty much it. The PS4 is not your best bet right now if games are what you’re looking for.

Xbox One

Microsoft’s storming out of the gates a lot earlier, with Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare launching on February 18. The third-person shooter is based on the ridiculously popular strategy game, and it looks like it’s going to be a whole load of fun.

A month later, on March 11, the console-selling behemoth that is Titanfall comes out, and it’s set to be a huge success. The game’s been met with hugely positive previews, and developers Respawn Entertainment have a track record of making great multiplayer shooters. This will almost certainly be the game that defines next-gen in early 2014, and it’s a Microsoft exclusive.

Microsoft’s managed to retain a strong lineup throughout Q2, with the supremely interesting Project Spark launching at some point (the beta starts in a few weeks), along with fun Kinect title Kinect Sports Rivals.

Although the quantity of titles to look forward to is the same on both platforms, the quality of releases looks to be a little superior on Xbox One. If you can get your hands on both consoles, we’d highly recommend it (you’ll miss out on some great games no matter which console you get), but if you have to pick just one we’d recommend the Xbox One.

Stay tuned to Talkingship over the year to get full reviews on all of the above titles.

Games that might be worthy of adding to your next 6 months radar.

PS4: MLB 2014, Planetside 2, Oddworld New N Tasty, War Thunder, Daylight, Secret Ponchos,

Xbox One: D4, Super Time Force,

  • KP

So many announced games with unknown release dates for both systems. ‘Below’ for XB1 could be early 2014, ‘Outlast’ for PS4. Can’t wait!

  • KP

Sorry for the needlessly negative comment.

  • dave

dude, this really does seem like a slanted article. especially when stating your opinion as fact. Infamous is average? Then you ignore the fact that driveclub is being made by the same guys that made WRC and motorstorm, and you brush it off based on an alpha build of the game?

The funniest part is actually you saying that titanfall is a console seller. First off, its a new IP. secondly, not only is it coming out on the PC, its coming out on the bloody 360 too. You know what that means? no one that owns a 360 is going to buy an X1 just for that one game. It would move consoles if it were coming out on just one platform. It isn’t.

lastly, everyone by now knows that multiplats play better on the PS4, Anyone thats looking to buy a console for any given number of multiplats are more likely to pick up the PS4 and of course, its also cheaper. i am sorry if it looks like you are getting a lot of flak for your misleading article, but its just really bad when anyone takes the time to publish an article on a website and generally gives skewed or biased looking information.

Anyways, hope you enjoy the titanfall.

  • Shaxster

Of course it’s slanted, I am a person with opinions and I express those opinions in articles. I don’t like inFamous. I played Driveclub in October (a month before it was supposed to be released) and was very, very unimpressed. They’re my opinions, sure. But I never claimed to be objective.

  • Shaxster

All games that I hadn’t really though of (or, in some cases, heard about) that look cool. Thanks for pointing them out!

  • Shaxster

    1. You can check my Twitter if you don’t believe me about owning both consoles…
    2. Other people’s opinions do not equal my opinions
    3. That’s a tease, not a confirmation so as of right now, GW is an X1 exclusive (the decision would likely be down to EA, not PopCap)
    4. That’s you speculating that it won’t have the same appeal, there’s no way of you knowing that (your comment is just as valid as mine, basically)
    5. Buggy, perhaps (but that can be fixed) and nope, I think Kinect will enhance it a lot.

  • Shaxster

I don’t find inFamous to be anything special. I’ve played both of them and they were ok, but not amazing, IMO. Titanfall has received ridiculously positive previews, and other writers for this site who aren’t big on multiplayer games have played it and told me that it’s redefined multiplayer. So yup, I don’t think it’s unfair to hype Titanfall.

  • Shaxster

If you read the first paragraph, you’d have avoided being misled.

  • Shaxster

Very interesting thoughts! Thanks for the comment.

  • KP

NP, glad you enjoyed. Thanks for being active in the comments btw.

  • Shaxster

Not at all: I enjoy talking to the readers, it gives me a better idea of what you guys think and what you guys want to see on the site. No point being insular!

  • http://twitter.com/sistersafetypin SisterSafetyPin

Then it should have been in the first line of your article. Something like, “To be clear, this article will only be focusing on the first 6 months.” However the point is, the game has been announced to release this year. No speculation needed. I also notice you left of Thief which releases next month… lol. You should have just written about X1 and let you fanboy flag shine

  • nanodolt

Can you write an article about your preference for PS4? We’d like to hear your reasoning.

  • nanodolt

Thanks. That idiot really needed a reality check. It’s a shame he’s back talking to his circle of 12 year-old friend on xbox live and will not return.

  • nanodolt

Please write an article with clear definitions of how Modern Warfare redefined multiplayer and how Titanfall will redefine it even further.

I think everyone would like to hear that.

  • Shake

What site did you go to because I have played the infamous games but got to bored to bea them. They also have poor sales. Both Infamous 1 and 2 overall sales have been outsold by halo 1. Infamous isn’t really the type of game that would land me to purchase a ps4 but Titanfall will be awesome.

  • da Boss

One can hope. And who knows, they might even announce it for the holidays after E3.

  • boseth

I don’t think anyone should make their choice of a console just by certain games that are coming out early on. What about great games that will later be out on the opposite console? Are they then to go and buy that console also at that time. I don’t think Titanfall will define next gen shooter. It’s Mech, which doesn’t stand too good Western gaming platforms. There’s already been complaints and disappointment that its 6 on 6 multiplayer. There’s plenty of great games that are coming out for both systems that will better define the PS4 rather than the XBOXONE mainly because the PS4 is a stronger more powerful system. Call of Duty and Battlefield where both created at higher resolutions on PS4 than that on the XBOXONE. The PS4 has Watch Dogs, Second Son, Drive Club, Thief, Destiny, etc. within that first 6 months. In my home, there’s two PS4 systems and one XBOXONE system. The best looking graphical game right now happens to be NBA 2K14. We have it on both systems and it stands out bettet on the PS4. I believe a person should go with what their preference happens to be. Your article seemed sort of bias. Also, PS4 is outselling XboxOne 2 to 1. Have to add all important information.

  • Eric

The fall? When baseball season is ending? MLB games come out in the spring.

  • Jose David Yacaman

ur site should be called talking chi#.com
    xbot on!

  • Gage Cloutier

    This article is embarrassing.

  • Shaxster

I doubt it, because then it won’t have a long enough marketing cycle. It will need at least a year of ads, trailers, previews etc., IMO. I guess we’ll see in a few months though!

  • Shaxster

Ah, didn’t realise that. I’m a Brit, so never really paid much attention to MLB games.

  • Shaxster

I actually might do. Thanks for the idea!

  • Shaxster

It’s in the second sentence of the article, I’m not exactly burying it. And I left off Thief because it’s not an exclusive.

  • Shaxster

Well like I said in the conclusion, if you have the ability to, you should pick up both consoles. Great games will be coming to both, but for the first 6 months at least, X1 is winning on the exclusives front, IMO.

  • Shaxster

    Sorry you think that.

  • Shaxster

Yet another good idea for an article. Thanks!

  • Juventino888

You lost your credibility when you described the infamous series as “slightly above average”.

  • Juventino888

Haha, you owned him with that one!

  • Shaxster

Well, that’s my opinion. It’s not a particularly great series, IMO.

  • Funny

How convenient of you to post an article claiming best exclusives of 2014, then in the first paragraph, change it to the first half of 2014, when we all know Sony has already said that they are going to have huge announcements for E3. Now I don’t know how long you’ve been a gamer, but if history serves me right, Sony ALWAYS delivers on games! It’s why they’ve won every console generation. The Wii is a sad excuse for a console and belongs in the kiddie section.

  • james

Titanfall is not an Xbox 1 exclusive. I can play it on 360 :)

  • james

    And 360 :)

  • Jed ‘Papa Doc’ Arain

    Ty! 😉

  • Xboxonevsps4

Look at all the ps4 fanboys coming out to defend the system. If it’s so much better an has better games you shouldn’t have to defend it all the time. Xbox is a much better online experience since I have both I can tell you this is true like on Xmas when ps4 online went to shit but xbox was just fine. I play games online an I think if you do the xbox is better they are both great systems so I don’t see why all the hate from one to another Titian fall will be better than second son which is a shit game if you ask me. Clear winner like the post says is xbox one an it always will be they have better games and always have.

  • da Boss

No it wont, Uncharted will sell like a motherfucker. Especially if its on both the ps3 and the ps4. It will sell like crazy. And not like before, uncharted has alot more notoriety now. It will sell alot better.

  • Guest

Loving the $0N¥ PauperStation Foul N4Gtard NeoFAG desperation once again. Keep it up Sony Ponies, your tears are delicious when you’re following $0N¥ off the cliff to their doom.

  • Guest

    It’s isn’t slightly above average, it’s P*SS POOR.

  • Shaxster

    Can we remain civil please.

  • Nongeneric

“Good chance” is your opinion, not fact. For now it is only available on X1 and not PS4.

Titanfall is available on X1 and not PS4, which it makes it exclusive to that console. Since the article is comparing PS4 and X1, there is no need to bring in other platforms into discussion.

You are getting caught up in the little details to try and help yourself forget that the PS4 games line up is weaker than the X1s.

BOTTOM LINE: X1 has better games than PS4 for 2014.

  • generic-user-name a.k.a GUN

BOTTOM LINE: Outlast, Planetside 2, Don’t Starve, Daylight etc etc.

^None of these are on X1, they will be on PS4 in the first 6 months of 2014. But the author ignores these.

And once again, seeing as you can’t read, I never said Titanfall wasn’t a console exclusive, I said there is no proof that it is a “console-selling behemoth”

“X1 has better games than PS4 for 2014.”

    Get lost fanboy.

  • Nongeneric

Lol outlast? Daylight? Don’t starve? Never heard of them.

Everyone’s heard of Halo, Fable, and Titanfall.

Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark, Quantam Break are even better than the garbage you’ve mentioned.

And this is what you said “You do not need an X1 to play Titanfall, therefore it is not exclusive.” Who cares about PC or 360 this article is about PS4 vs X1, and Titanfall is not on PS4. 175,000 pre orders is more than any PS4 exclusive.

Once again, PS4 exclusives thus far are total garbage. X1 is destroying PS4 in console exclusives in 2014. That is FACT and you have terrible taste if you think differently.

Sorry you picked the wrong console.

  • generic-user-name a.k.a GUN

“Lol outlast? Daylight? Don’t starve? Never heard of them.”

    Yup, that’s because you’re ignorant.

“Everyone’s heard of Halo, Fable, and Titanfall.”

    Another Halo? Yawn.

Fable? That’s gone down the shitter.

Titanfall? Not even been released yet.

“Sunset Overdrive, Project Spark, Quantam Break are even better than the garbage you’ve mentioned.”

You haven’t even SEEN gameplay from 2 of those and the other is buggy and better on PC, lol. Fanboyism really showing now.

“Who cares about PC or 360”

It’ll sell better on both of those platforms than it will on the X1.

“X1 is destroying PS4 in console exclusives in 2014. That is FACT and you have terrible taste if you think differently.”

    Soz babes, you’re delusional.

  • wow

This site is so biased lol. Titanfall and Infamous are on the same level. Also how the hell are third party games going to look. Better on Xbox one? How much is Microsoft paying you bots?

  • Shaxster

Well the article’s talking about exclusives, so it’s not relevant whether third party titles are better on X1 or not.

  • Nongeneric

“It’ll sell better on both of those platforms than it will on the X1”

False. X1 pre orders are at 200,000 with 360 and PC combined under 100,000. Thus, the only factual based source available disagrees with you. Besides, PC and 360 have nothing to do with this, read the title PS4 vs X1. Not PC and not 360. So sales on those platforms are irrelevant, what matters is Titanfall is coming to X1 and not PS4. It will sell better than infamous because it is a better game. (Already has more total pre orders which is impressive considering PS4 has sold more consoles).

Oh and btw, Kinect Sports has more pre orders than Dyling Light by about 30,000. So let’s put this for you simply:

    TitanFall > inFamous
    Kinect Sports > Dying Light
    Halo > The Order
Fable > Don’t Starve and Outlast

If you seriously think those PC ports Don’t Starve or Outlast hold a candle to original triple A games like Fable or Sunset Overdrive you are deranged. Furthermore, Halo will destroy The Order just like Titanfall will destroy infamous.

Sorry I had to be the one to tell you PS4 sucks

  • generic-user-name a.k.a GUN

You make this too easy for me son.

“It will sell better than infamous because it is a better game.”

“Already has more total pre orders which is impressive considering PS4 has sold more consoles”

According to your own delusional logic, the better something is, the more it will sell, which means you are just after telling me that the PS4 is better than the X1.

But let’s look at this sentence again

“It will sell better than infamous because it is a better game.”

Do you understand how stupid you look? Both games are still months from release, and while Titanfall looks fun it doesn’t have the next-gen look of inFamous, it looks like a 360 game. Not to mention people who have played Second Son and also didn’t like inFamous before hand are saying it’s amazing. (You’ll find that on IGN).

I’m not even gonna bother wasting time replying anymore, you can’t reason with a fanboy. I hope one day you will be able to realise that both the PS4 and X1 are just plastic boxes.

  • Nongeneric

Do you realize how much of an idiot you are? This article is comparing which console has the better 2014 games line up. None of your comments address that debate.

Instead you quote people out of context and make up arguments for them in an attempt to make them appear stupid and yourself like some intelligent knowledgable person. And when someone finally calls you out on your bs you back away and close with let’s remember that PS4 and X1 are just plastic boxes. No S$&@ son!

How dense are you? Let me repeat myself again, this article is about 2014 game line ups. Not which console is better. Using actual pre order data I show you that despite a disadvantage in total player pools, X1 has more pre orders for its exclusives than PS4. In addition, X1 has more triple a titles announced and you counter with Don’t Starve and Outlast…two PC ports….

    X1 2014 games > PS4 2014 games. Done.

I really hope you don’t believe your own BS
