Foster’s, You’re Fired!

January 16, 2012 | 2

Since the age of 17, I have abused my liver and taste buds with Foster’s and other concoctions that have been described as beer. No more. Thanks to Talkingship I’ve finally taken the plunge into the world of delicious ales.

An innocent fresh fish hunt at the nearby supermarket turned into a long staring contest where the most amusing named beer would make it into my basket. Four made it in and many, many more will soon follow as I seek out and taste new glorious pastures. I will try and describe the taste, words may be invented by myself to achieve this, I will not however be describing the smell as years of smoking and exposure to my flatmate’s bathroom deposits have left that sense useless. I better get on and show you what I have as the beer is being consumed and my hand, brain co-ordination is quickly deteriorating. Read More

Defending Guilty Pleasures

January 15, 2012 | 4

Water, the planet’s core is made of.

You’re sitting there watching a movie and you think to yourself, this is fantastic! The plot and action is gluing you to your seat, eyes fixated on the 21” mass of curved glass in front of you. A decade passes by, the internet is in full flow and you’ve just watched that same movie for the hundredth time. You find an article headlined ’The 10 Worst Movies of the 90’s” on this great internet and find the movie you loved so much is listed. The acting ripped to shreds, the plot left in a stinking heap on the floor and the production quality laughed at like a giggling school girl. It must be a mistake right? Two hours of trawling through the internet proves that it’s not a mistake or a joke, every Tom, Dick and Jitterbug out there has bashed one of your favourite movies and so it’s confirmed, this is now your guilty pleasure.

A Love Song

January 13, 2012 | 4

Yes, so love songs in general are pretty bad. They’re slow, boring, soppy, only played at weddings and the ladies can’t get enough of them. So I felt I needed to do something about it.Read More

My Top Three Animes of 2011

January 12, 2012 | 1

Lovely Complex. Not your typical rom com.

I’ve always loved animation. From the classic Warner Brothers five minute giggle fests to the wondrous ‘Sword in the Stone’ and ‘Robin Hood’ by Disney. It wasn’t until earlier this year that I started to delve deep into the world of Japanese anime. I had seen and marvelled at ‘Dragonball Z’ and  ‘Tenchi Muyo!’ some years ago and I was left wanting more. So off I went, searching and sifting through the mass database of anime titles. Then the endless hours of watching began. With my eyes bloodshot and buttocks sore, I realized that I was addicted. The beautiful ‘Ah! My Goddess’ and  ‘Lovely Complex’ (I could write a whole article on this anime) to the disturbing ‘School Days’ and graphic ‘Elfen Lied’, it was all miles above in quality compared to the hum drum bullshit that was coming out of Hollywood. The Japanese are twisted (no offense intended) and are not afraid to show it, and this makes for great storytelling or at least something different. Now I don’t consider myself an expert on anime and I’ve not seen all that has been released in 2011 so feel free to comment and give suggestions on any anime that that I’ve missed and I’ll add it to my long, long list of anime to watch. With that said, here are my favourite three animes from 2011.
