Red Dwarf X

February 6, 2012 | 3

Red Dwarf is returning and I’m excited! This unique UK sci-fi sitcom has pleasured me for hours with it’s slapstick and stomach cramp inducing one-liners. The first episode ‘The End‘ first aired in the UK in 1988 and is set to return for it’s tenth series in September this year with six new episodes.

The first episode is set sometime in the late 22nd century, an on-board radiation leak of cadmium II kills everyone except for low-ranking technician Dave Lister, who is in suspended animation at the time, and his pregnant cat, Frankenstein, who is safely sealed in the cargo hold. Following the accident, the ship’s computer Holly keeps Lister in stasis until the background radiation dies down – a process that takes three million years. Lister therefore emerges as the last human being in the universe – but not alone on-board the ship. His former bunkmate and immediate superior Arnold Judas Rimmer is resurrected by Holly as a hologram to keep Lister sane. At the same time, a creature known only as Cat is the last member on board of Felis sapiens, a race of humanoid felines that evolved in the ship’s hold from Lister’s cat, Frankenstein, and her kittens during the 3 million years that Lister was in stasis.Wiki –

Red Dwarf’s co-creator, writer, director and executive producer Doug Naylor confirmed Red Dwarf X on April 10th 2011 at the Dimension Jump XVI convention. The four main characters; Rimmer, Lister, Cat and Kryten will once again be played by Chris Barris, Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules and Robert Llewellyn. But as of writing this, there has been no news on whether Holly is set to return and who will play the insanely daft A.I. Read More

The Expendables 2 Will Be PG-13

January 19, 2012 | 6

Stallone loves the kiddos

The first Expendables sucked. Sorry to be a downer, but I’d rather watch reels of hotel implosions than sit through Sylvester’s action opus again. However, it seems some folks liked that movie because of all the cool booms and stuff. They liked the violence, explosions, blood, and machismo so much that Sylvester Stone was able to make a sequel.

And that sequel will be PG-13.

WHAT?!?! Are you serious? The only possible enjoyment a human being could glean from the first movie was the violence. Why would you temper that in the sequel? Well, apparently it wasn’t the violence that was an issue, it was the cursing. That’s fucking stupid.

From what I’ve been able to dig up, the problems came from Chuck Norris’ involvement. They really wanted him in the movie, but he had an issue with the vulgarity in the script. He agreed to be in the movie only if they took the vulgarity out. Because, clearly, hearing the word, “Shit” is much worse on our collective psyche than seeing a person’s head explode. Thanks for saving our humanity, Chuck!

Defending Guilty Pleasures

January 15, 2012 | 4

Water, the planet’s core is made of.

You’re sitting there watching a movie and you think to yourself, this is fantastic! The plot and action is gluing you to your seat, eyes fixated on the 21” mass of curved glass in front of you. A decade passes by, the internet is in full flow and you’ve just watched that same movie for the hundredth time. You find an article headlined ’The 10 Worst Movies of the 90’s” on this great internet and find the movie you loved so much is listed. The acting ripped to shreds, the plot left in a stinking heap on the floor and the production quality laughed at like a giggling school girl. It must be a mistake right? Two hours of trawling through the internet proves that it’s not a mistake or a joke, every Tom, Dick and Jitterbug out there has bashed one of your favourite movies and so it’s confirmed, this is now your guilty pleasure.
