EGX Rezzed Preview: Biome

EGX Rezzed Preview: Biome

Imagine Minecraft. Now imagine Minecraft with a low-poly, heavily stylised aesthetic. Now imagine looking down at that world, and being able to interact with it, god-game style. Congratulations: you’re imagining Biome

Biome presents a cube-world to you, with one means of interaction: click and drag. Click and drag a rock, and you’ll form a mountain. Click and drag the oceans up and you’ll flood the world. Basically, you have a mini-world that you can do what you want with. Although this may sound slightly boring, it’s weirdly compelling. The accompanying music is lovely, and the lighting is very atmospheric, turning it into the audiovisual artistic piece that the developers were aiming for. The game evolves as you continue playing: animals will develop, there are day/night cycles, and I was even told that if you drag water over a rock where a herd of deer are, the deer will adapt and evolve to be able to live in the water. For a bitesized iPad/Steam game, this is rather lovely indeed (although its longevity, much like with most simulator games, is questionable).

Preview based on a PC build of Biome at EGX Rezzed. Read all of our EGX Rezzed coverage here.
