EDIT: Sorry for the late post, the site went down temporarily and I held off on reposting this so I wouldn’t push everyone’s articles off the front page.
Welcome to Trailerpalooza! This is a new article we’ll be putting up monthly, gathering some of the most interesting trailers of the month that was, for games that are coming down the pipe. Let’s get into it! Click on the logo thumbnails to view the trailers.
[rokbox title="The 3rd Birthday" thumb="http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/3rdbirthday.jpg" size="854 505" album="demo"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEERafnfwqs[/rokbox]First up is The Third Birthday, which is the third in the Parasite Eve series featuring protagonist Aya Brea. I'll be honest, I haven't played the sequel, but I was really impressed with the original. I've heard there's lots of masagonist pandering in this one but hey, if you've got a PSP and need to get one last hurrah out of it before the NGP launches, this may be your kind of game. The Third Birthday is set to be released on March 29 in the USA.
[rokbox title=”Jurassic Park” thumb=”http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/JurassicPark.Logo_.jpg” size=”854 505″ album=”demo”]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhntYpE5k0k[/rokbox]
Next up is Jurassic Park from Telltale Games, the makers of the Sam and Max series, and the more recent Back to the Future game. Jurassic Park could signify a big change for Telltale as they are moving to a more gesture-based game mechanic, in the style of Heavy Rain. Also, like Heavy Rain, there are many scenarios in which your characters can die. The story will continue to play out without them in the mix. No release date or platforms have been announced for Jurassic Park, but you can bet it will come out on the PC and it will come out soon.
[rokbox title=”Dead Island” thumb=”http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/dead-island-570×291.png” size=”854 505″ album=”demo”]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ialZcLaI17Y[/rokbox]
Ready for a little controversy? This trailer is one of the most powerful you’ll ever witness for a video game. Watch it, and then read on.
It tells an entire narrative arc within the span of two minutes, with no dialogue, with a disjointed timeline. If you’ve ever seen Memento (and if you haven’t, stop reading and go watch that movie), you’ll immediately recognize the style of this trailer. There has been lots of buzz about this one due to the knee-jerk reaction about violence toward children. In fact, it may be the only game trailer I’ve ever seen that has violence toward a child as its turning point. Interestingly, though, the creators have subverted any real blame, as there is never an adult conciously engaging in the violence. The first instance is the zombies, essentially mindless animals, attacking the girl, and the second instance is the man, in defending himself, almost accidentally tossing her out the window. My take is that this trailer was a landmark success for Pegi 18, as it brought many more eyes to their game than they had before the trailer was released.
[rokbox title="Battlefield 3" thumb="http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Battlefield_3_Gameplay_Footage.jpg" size="854 505" album="demo"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNYtIMW-EG0[/rokbox]Alright, enough of that heady, high-level intellect. Let’s get into some straight ass-kicking. This is the gameplay trailer for Battlefield 3, and it bodes extremely well for the game. With the details of the game still under wraps, you can expect this one for the Christmas season this year. But if one game has a chance to topple the Call of Duty franchise it’s this one.
[rokbox title="Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" thumb="http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/ES.Thumb_.png" size="854 505" album="demo"]http://www.youtube.com/v/JSRtYpNRoN0[/rokbox]One last one for you, hot off the presses. The new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim trailer. Don’t sleep on this game, as Farva and I said on the GameLounge, this is more than just a sequel to Oblivion. This is the game where Bethesda can apply all their learnings from the Fallout games and DLC and apply it to the Elder Scrolls universe. Look out for this one on November 11, 2011.
[rokbox title=”Dead Space 2: Severed DLC” thumb=”http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/DeadSpacw.jpg” size=”854 505″ album=”demo”]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAt3hP1c5lU[/rokbox] [rokbox title=”Portal 2 Valentine’s Message” thumb=”http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/portal2.jpg” size=”854 505″ album=”demo”]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0TXdDQKocQ[/rokbox] [rokbox title=”Macho Man Introduces WWE All-Stars” thumb=”http://talkingship.com/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/WWF_Logo_0001.jpg” size=”854 505″ album=”demo”]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FDqRLGJLfY[/rokbox]Here’s some quick hits for you: a Dead Space 2 DLC trailer, and a couple ones just for fun. Portal 2’s Valentine’s Day card and Macho Man Randy Savage showing you just how insane he’s become.
