We all know Hollywood loves to churn out sequels, but sometimes one gets announced that takes us all by surprise. Case in point, Fox has announced that they are moving ahead with a sequel to the quickly forgotten film adaptation of the Hitman video game. “What?!” Yeah – that’s what I said.
In 2007, director Xavier Gens (whose film credits include absolutely nothing of value) gave us the first adventure of the bald, hired gun called Agent 47 in which we were forced to endure a plot involving a shadowy organization called … wait for this bout of creativity … The Organization! There were some Russian Military and Interpol issues as well, but my brain only has room for so much information and it chooses to shit out the most useless stuff, so I’m having trouble recalling just what the hell this movie was about.
Yet despite all of this, Fox wants to capitalize upon this cash cow. Unbelievably, despite the horrid 35 rating on Metacritic, this little movie that cost about $30 million to make ended up earning over $100 million when all was said and done! Who the fuck has been buying this movie on DVD? Why are you contributing to the dredge of shit that Hollywood wants to feed you?
There’s no news about whether or not the star of the original Hitman, Timothy Olyphant (who I am a big fan of … at least when he’s playing a sheriff) will be returning, but let’s assume he isn’t. The director has been replaced, as well as the original screen writer, so perhaps this could be the turning point in the film series that no one ever wanted to be a series.
