Hi friends! How have you been? Is it cold where you live? It’s cold where I live. Do you know what that means? It means I spend a lot more time inside enjoying delicious beer. I’m going to share another one with you today. It’s one of my favorites, though I feel like every beer I share with you could fall into that category. I have a lot of favorites.
This week we’re going to dive into Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Brewed in Lexington, Kentucky by Alltech’s Lexington Brewing and Distilling Co., this one is definitely a winner in my book. This was also my beer of choice for this year’s Superbowl . Lexington takes their Kentucky Ale and then ages in fresh Bourbon barrels for up to 6 weeks giving the Ale it’s strong bourbon flavor. Obviously, if you don’t like bourbon you are most likely not going to enjoy this beer.
If you can, drink this beer out of a snifter or similarly shaped glass. It is highly aromatic and the snifter is hands down the best way to fully appreciate this one. Not that other glassware won’t due the trick, but I want the two of you to have the best time that you possibly can. Upon pouring you are going to see a lovely coppery color as well as a decent head that dissipates fairly quickly. The nose is rich with bourbon and hints of vanilla and caramel. Let’s just stop now. Let’s gaze upon this beauty and take time to truly appreciate her and thank her for all she provides. Woo her a little bit. When your lips finally touch the glass you can feel the slight warmth as it goes down provided by the bourbon that has infused the liquid. She’s gentle and soft. Everything a lady should be. The bourbon flavor doesn’t overwhelm like it can on many ale’s this style. It’s balanced and delicious.
You can find Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale both bottled in a 4 pack and on draft if you’re lucky. My local summer watering hole has it occasionally which is where I first discovered it. So give it a try. Let me know what you think.
