iOS Game of the Week – PuzzleJuice
If you’re like me, you’ve played Tetris to death. When I start up a game of Tetris, assuming I start on level zero, it takes almost twenty minutes before there is any challenge. On top of that, it’s either very hot, or very cold – I’m either in complete control or totally out of control of what’s going on. Many have tried to iterate on the tried and true formula of Tetris, but PuzzleJuice brings something entirely new to the table: Word Searching.
I know, that doesn’t sound wholly appealing. But if you consider yourself a master of either Tetris or Word Search, or mildly proficient in either or both, you should definitely give PuzzleJuice a shot. No matter how skilled you are at these games, though, PuzzleJuice will melt your brain. It’s designed to do just that. Here’s how it works: Just like Tetris, you fit blocks into lines at the bottom of your board, and as you create lines, they turn into letters. The blocks don’t disappear until you create words with those letters, as if you’re playing a dynamic Word Search. There are special blocks that blow out the tiles around them, freeze the screen and create other special scenarios. The player can also match up tiles of the same color to uncover letters to create larger and more complex words, and the whole thing is surrounded by a distinct visual style and a custom-made soundtrack.
PuzzleJuice is certainly one of the more interesting game options available for iOS options, and it may not end up being your cup of tea. But in my opinion, you owe it to yourself to try. It’s only one dollar on the iTunes store, which makes me feel like a criminal for how much time I’ve poured into it.
