I hate to be the one to say it, but it looks like the Kick-Ass movie franchise is dead.
Everyone involved in the original film has moved on to other projects, making it hard to pull the cast back together for a film that isn’t already scheduled in by a contract. Just about every star in the film was either already a big name, or has since become one, making it extra difficult to secure their return. However, most of them have stated that they would love to do a sequel, which kept the hope alive for a while. Until today.
The person who adapted the first comic for the big screen, Jane Goldman, has been quoted as saying, “I don’t think it’s going to happen. At the moment, it’s not in the works. We’re all doing different things at the moment. We would love to do it again, but we’ve all been pulled in different directions.
While Goldman also back peddled a little and said that if the right story came around, they might just all sign on, that is Hollywood-speak for, “It ain’t gonna happen.” It’s like Jack Nicholson saying that he would do a One Flew Over The Cookoo’s Nest 2 if the right script came along. They never like to close the door on a paycheck, even when the door’s been barred from both sides.
It’s a shame to see this franchise die, but perhaps we can all breath a sigh of relief that a sub-par sequel never had the chance to mar this otherwise great film. Good night, Kick-Ass, I’ll be seeing you back in the comics where we loved you best.
