Back in the mid-nineties, Alanis Morisette released what became, for many, the soundtrack of the decade. Her album, Jagged Little Pill, was synonymous with teen angst while ushering in the degradation of the alternative aesthetic into a pop-music mush (and that’s coming from someone who actually likes the album). Grammar Nazis the world over screamed in terror upon the release of what would be the second most popular song on the album, Ironic, in which Alanis sings about a string of things that aren’t actually, literally ironic – and in some cases are even a stretch to call a coincidence. Well, the issue is finally at rest, because Rachael Hurwitz has rewritten the song so that it is actually, by definition, Ironic.
