We are gathered here today to mourn the death of our beloved friend. A giver. A taker. A flawed friend. But a friend all the same.
We are gathered here today to mourn the death of our beloved friend. A giver. A taker. A flawed friend. But a friend all the same.
Today is the day. The most prestigious day. After the sham that was the Spike VGAs late last year, the kings are back. With a superiority complex, they’re going to do an awards show properly. With taste. With style. With elegance. With actual awards instead of freaking mini games! Yes, it’s the BAFTAs. The gaming BAFTAs. People ask for ‘the Oscars for games.’ We don’t get that. But BAFTAs will more than suffice.
The awards ceremony kicks off at 9PM GMT, and we’ll be liveblogging right here starting at 8.30PM. There will be fun. There will be laughs. And there will be goddamn video games. See you then.
16.34
And that’s it! We’re done here. Thanks for sticking along, was great fun! See you at the next liveblog!
16.32
Best Game is…PORTAL 2. HELLLLLLLLLL YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Ok, the nominees are: LA Noire (unfortunately, can’t win it IMO), Arkham City (would love it to win. fantastic game), FIFA 12 (is this a joke), Skyward Sword (not a chance), Portal 2 (very real chance, great game), Skyrim (WHAT A GAME).
16.30
Talking about his family and how they all play games together. Just wished his son a happy bday and his wife Mother’s Day. AND OH MY GOD HIS SON HAS AMAZING BIRTHDAY CAKES.
16.28
He looks rather wasted
16.28
Presenter is Jonathan Ross! This is going to be a good one. I predict Skyrim.
16.27
So that’s two wins for Arkham. And now we’re onto Game of the Year. OOOHHHHHHH
16.27
Winner is Mark Hamill! Had an AMAZING performance as the Joker. PLEASE say he’s back for Arkham 3. He’s not here to collect the award though.
16.26
Nominees are: Aaron Staton/ LA Noire (was a bit of a dodgy performance), Nolan North/ Uncharted 3 (who isn’t suprised), Steven Merchant/ Portal 2 (has to win), Mark Hamill/ Arkham City (great actor), Togo Igawa/Shogun 2, Stephen Fry/LBP2.

Presenter is Miles Jacobson. This award has already bored me.
16.07
That was a good speech. Long, but good. Now we’re moving onto Sport/Fitness.
16.06
Talking about his gaming history. And how there’s a lot of indie innovation right now. That’s true.
16.05
Thanked all developers. This is good. Notch REALLY likes indie devs.
16.04
Thanking some people. Awkwardly and hilariously.
16.04
Awkwardly taking out his speech. And he’s clearly happy. He SO deserves it. And he likes Britain. So yay.
16.03
YAY NOTCH. I LIKE NOTCH.
16.02
Should say, it was Ian Livingstone, not Ken. Awkward.

I’M BORED, MR LIVINGSTONE. LET NOTCH COME ON AND BE RUDE AND FUNNY.
16.01
Yeah, winner is Notch.
16.00
Politically campaigning. That’s low.
15.59
Next we have Special Award. Notch won this, I think. Presenter is…Ian Livingstone.
15.58
He’s French, so the speech isn’t great. I can forgive that.
15.57
Winner is Rayman Origins. Deservedly so!
15.57
He clearly smokes 90 a day. His voice is so gravelly. 15.38
Time for the GAME Award of 2011. Which will suck. Because it’s voted on by the public. But Ortis Dealey is presenting. And he’s funny!

15.17
It’s Suzi Perry presenting!
15.17
Audio Achievement. I assume BF3 will win this.
15.17
And…back to Dara.
15.16

Happy it won. It was a great game. Thanking Brendan MacNamara. Bit awkward…
15.15
Winner is…LA Noire! Didn’t expect it to win much!

14.59
Apparently Dara O Briain is on stage. Come on IGN!
14.58
Ooh, just checked this software, and it looks like you don’t have to refresh. Ever. So that’s awesome. Learn something new every day.
14.58
Eagerly refreshing the livestream. Just three minutes to go. Who else is excited? Hopefully the Spike VGAs will be put to shame…
14.56
IGN’s livestream is still not up! Have heard that The Saturdays are currently performing, so we’re not exactly missing the end of the world.
14.53
Ok, you may have to refresh every so often. Once you see the page has stopped loading, hit refresh. We’ll try and get that sorted out for next time!
14.53
Oh, should tell you that to comment on what you’re seeing, tweet @Shaxster , and I’ll reply over here. Unfortunately this system doesn’t have a great comments system, and if it does I haven’t seen it yet! Still great software though, don’t you think?
14.51
Just got word that the awards ceremony will last an hour or so. Nice: short and to the point is best with awards shows.
14.50
The livestream hasn’t gone live yet. Just 10 minutes to go.
14.47
I should note that there’s no need to refresh, the new posts will come up automatically. It’s like magic. But on the internet. Maginet.
14.46
Hello everyone! I’m your host Shaxster, and I’ll be providing you with all the news straight from the British Academy Video Games Awards!
Welcome to this exciting fourth iOS Game of The Week! This time I will be showing off Game Dev Story!
If you like Sim City and video game development then you will LOVE Game Dev Story. This Japanese-ported application was developed by the small dev team, Kairosoft. And they have done a mighty-fine job with this title! The game is an intense 16-bit simulation of none other than a game development studio! Your job is to manage your employees and games in development by hiring, firing, moving, training and advertising! It may seem simple, but the game can get very exciting, and it is extremely satisfying to get a game out the door and see those critic reviews. Kairosoft knows that you won’t be left entirely satisfied with developing games or sticking with 4 employees, so they give you multiple opportunities to upgrade your office space or start developing consoles of your own! To keep it interesting and challenging there is a simulated “GAMEDEX” (E3) event which you can attend and present your games. In order to mix it up and keep you on your toes they also throw in other console development by SENGA, SONNY, and INTENDRO, which you can choose to purchase a license from to develop games for the systems. This part is where a little gaming knowledge may come in (hint: develop games on the Intendro Super IES)
In the end Game Dev Story offers deep, addictive gameplay while keeping it simple, and giving you those short bursts of fun we have all come to love!
I am a sucker when Steam decides to offer me cheap games, and so I now have a long list of these games cluttering up my library. I grabbed my friend, BodsterBug, made him play a game and then proceeded to recorded the experience. For those that know him you know what to expect, for those that don’t….. let’s just say, I think he’s “special”.
