Hello everyone! I’m popping in to give a quick update on the progress of Deadlocked 3 since people have been asking when it is going to be available.
I’m working my butt off on it, and I think the level of research I’ve done will be apparent once you read the story. The first book dealt with one man’s struggle to save his family and the second delved into his wife’s continuing attempt to do the same. In part 2, the main characters go back into the city and find it nearly vacant. I tried to throw a couple clues into that story as to what was going on, but most of it was spent focusing on Laura’s grisly journey to save her daughter.
The theme of Deadlocked has been family. More specifically, what does it mean to be in one and what lengths would you go to to protect yours? Could you do what Laura did? Could you make the decisions that David had to make? Those are the main themes present in parts 1 and 2. Part 3 focuses on Billy, and it tries to tell the story of a son that is hoping to make his parents proud. It’s a fun dynamic to toy with, but it doesn’t have the easily tapped emotional depth that a parental relationship does. I’m using that to my advantage by spending a good amount of time in part 3 explaining the lore.
Part 3 is going to reveal a LOT of the overall details of the outbreak. Where did this disease come from? Who was responsible? Why is the city nearly vacant? Who were the men pretending to be police officers in the first two parts and how did they know so much about the disease? All of these questions are answered in this book, and it has been a hell of a lot of fun doing the research to make sure it’s all plausible. This book also has to serve as a set-up for the final, intense confrontation that will be dealt with in part 4!
I can’t wait for you to get a chance to read it, and I expect to have it out sometime very soon. However, since this book is far more research intense than the last two, I want to make sure I’ve got my bases covered in the FACTs department.
Thanks for your interest in the books!
