Jani Lane, the former lead singer of Warrant, was found dead at the Comfort Inn Hotel in Woodland Hills, CA yesterday evening around 5:30. It has been no secret that Jani suffered through a serious battle with addiction that not only cost him his job as the singer for Warrant, but also might have been what led to his death at the young age of 47.
Warrant became well known in the late 80’s and early 90’s for songs like ‘Cherry Pie’ and ‘Heaven.’ In 2008 the band finally split with their singer for undeclared reasons, though the majority of people understood he was being let go due to his addictions. Jani and his band had suffered through several tumultuous years of breaking up and getting back together, but as of 2008 it seemed that things were finally finished for good.
Jani garnered a little boost in fame in 2005 when he appeared on the reality show, Celebrity Fit Club 2. This was the first chance most people got to see what a nice person he was, but they were never shown the dark side that haunted Jani through his entire adult life.
As we say goodbye to yet another person lost to the disease of drug and alcohol addiction (*allegedly*), we here at Talkingship want to urge our friends and listeners to be careful, and take care of your friends and family that might be suffering with the same sorts of demons that keep stealing away people far too soon.
