It’s a mystery for the ages!
On October 26th, 2011, an 8 foot tall lego figure washed up on the shores of Siesta Key, Florida. Jeff Hindman was casually strolling along the beach when he spotted the odd sight. He dragged the 100lb, fiber glass figure onto shore, then sat puzzled at the message emblazoned upon it’s green shirt.
“No Real Than You Are”
Similar statues have washed up on shores in other countries! Once in the Dutch resort of Zandvoort, and once in Brighton Beach in the UK. Officials from the Lego company have said they have nothing to do with this, even though a new Lego resort recently opened in nearby Orlando, Florida.
The lego man also has a name, Ego Leonard, which is emblazoned on the back of his shirt along with the number 8.
Officials now have the giant lego man in custody, but if no one claims ownership of the behemoth within 90 days it will become the property of the man who found it, Jeff Hindman. Hindman says that if he does win ownership, he will put the massive creation on sale on eBay.
There is a lot of speculation about how this creation ended up beached late one night in Sarasota, but no one has been able to explain away this strange occurrence as of yet. Is this a publicity stunt put on by the Lego company? Is some fiberglass manufacturer having a laugh? Is there a secret race of interstellar Lego men living in our oceans, waiting for the day when they will rise up and claim victory over our pathetic planet? Whose to say? Whatever the answer to the mystery is, we here at Talkingship will bring you the up to date information as it comes in! Until then, simply ponder the questions we all need answered: “Where’s his hat?” and “Why aren’t there holes in his feet and on the back of his legs?”

There is also a website that has been created to talk about Ego Leonard’s travels. You can find more info HERE.
It seems as if there is more than a small link between a street art community and our infamous Lego man. If you follow the rabbit trail, it will eventually lead you to a place called St. Art Gallery, based out of The Water Tower of Stampersgat in The Netherlands. These folks seem pretty interested in getting the word out about their artwork and the entire street art movement. You can check out their site HERE.
