Ghostbusters 3 Without Bill Murray

Ghostbusters without Murray?!

Rumors of a third Ghostbusters movie have been making the rounds on the internet since the internet was created.  The first movie was such a landmark film that we’ve collectively forgiven the lifeless sequel, and most people that I talk to are more then open to seeing a third movie.  Sure, everyone’s scared of sequels, but this is the GHOSTBUSTERS! However, some news that just came down the pipeline that is creating a buzz around the net and many people are starting to predict doom for this planned sequel.

Dan Aykroyd  and Ivan Reitman have been pushing to get this movie made for a long time, but their old buddy, Bill Murray, isn’t on board.  For a while, the reports coming out of the camp were that Murray was considering taking the role of Peter Venkman again if the script allowed him to be dead (remember, these movies are about ghosts, so the idea of having Venkman play a ghost has a lot of potential.)  Whether or not this script was created and Murray still frowned on it is unknown, but one thing is for sure: Aykroyd and Reitman are willing to move ahead with or without their former ghostbusting buddy.

Dan Aykroyd appeared on the Dennis Miller radio show last week and had quite a bit to say about the Ghostbusters 3 project.

“Yes, we will be doing the movie and hopefully with Mr. Murray. That is our hope.  We have an excellent script. What we have to remember is that ‘Ghostbusters’ is bigger than any one component, although Billy was absolutely the lead and contributive to it in a massive way.”

I’m not sure I want a Ghostbusters movie that doesn’t have Bill Murray in it.  Although, I might have to get used to it no matter what since the idea for this movie is that the original Busters are going to be passing the torch down to a new group of kids.  No actors have been confirmed to play the new cast of Ghostbusters, but there’s a lot of things about GB3 that haven’t been confirmed, including if the movie will ever actually happen!  While Aykroyd seems incredibly confident that the movie is going forward, the studio behind the film, Sony, hasn’t even given it a greenlight yet!
