If you asked me to make a list of the all time greatest PS2 games, I’d be a very poor gamer if I didn’t list Ico and Shadow of the Colossus amongst the champions. Both games, created by Team ICO, are individual masterpieces that form the first two games in, what some would call, an unrelated trilogy.
Following in the footsteps of the God of War Collection (which put the first two God of War games on one disc, remastered them in HD, and slapped trophy support in there for good measure), Team ICO announced at Tokyo Game Show that they are releasing their gems out in their own collection. Both games will get an HD touch up (they looked fabulous to begin with) and trophy support as expected. The two games are said to be running at a “solid 30 FPS,” which will definitely help. As beautiful as they were, there were some frame rate issues in the games. Hopefully the power of the PS3 will correct all wrongs.
The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection will be releasing in Spring of 2011 and will mark the release of Team ICO’s third game, The Last Guardian (which was also announced at TGS for a holiday 2011 release on PS3).
I know I’m excited for this. Now let’s hope for a Kingdom Hearts Collection soon too, eh?
