We try not to get political on this site to avoid pissing each other off, but the recent episode of Family Guy that Sarah Palin is up in arms about has me curious about what YOU, the Talkingship nation, think. 

In the episode in question, Chris, the teenage son on the show, falls in love with a girl with Down Syndrome.  He goes out on a date with her, and when asked about her parents, she responds: “My dad’s an accountant, and my mom is the former governor of Alaska.”  This has prompted outrage.

I’m going to try and stay unbiased here, because as you are probably aware, I think Palin is a twit.  But I want to be fair here.  Is this offensive?  I have been trying to figure out how I feel about this issue for a long time.  Remember in old episodes of Talkingship where Nerves and I stressed about using the word retarded because we didnt want to offend people?  It has been an issue for us since the beginning of the show, and this issue with Sarah Palin and Family Guy is an example of our dilema.

Let me get this out of the way, Sarah Palin is a media hungry *BLEEP* who is starting controversy just to get in the news (ahem – David Lettermen comment – ahem!) But that not-withstanding, does she have a point here?  Is this offensive?  If I’m not mistaken, she DOES have a child with Down Syndrome, so mentioning that is bad?  Or is it bad to use that in a comedy show?  What exactly about this is making her so angry?  And she is seriously pissed (wink and a nod, media!)

So, Talkingship nation, let me hear your thoughts.  If the shoe was on the other foot, and you were Sarah Palin (sorry about that, but just pretend for the sake of the conversation), would you be offended?
