Yeeeeeah. It’s Apple event time. New iPads, new iPad Minis, and probably more than a few surprises. We’re live blogging the event: join us.
Apple are playing HAIM on the livestream. Good song choice: I like Apple’s taste in music.
Five minutes to go until we see the new iPads. As an aside: anyone want to buy a 32GB iPad 4?
Last minute predictions: new iPad (thinner and lighter, faster processor), new keyboard-integrated smart covers, new retina iPad Mini, Haswell MacBook Pro Retinas and a minor Apple TV refresh.
Should be noted that this is the first time in a while that the entire event hasn’t leaked. Apple are actually doubling down on secrecy.
IT BEGINS.
Starting with a fancy video about how they create with love and emotions and stuff
“We simplify, we perfect, we start over. Until everything we touch enhances each life it touches. Only then do we sign our work: Designed by Apple in California.” How heartwarming.
The Cook is out.
That video reflected the unique way that Apple creates the very best products in the world, apparently.
Update time. iPhone sales numbers?
9 million iPhones sold in the launch weekend. Biggest iPhone launch OF ALLLL TIMEEEE (to be said in Kanye’s voice).
Video of the launch from Apple’s retail stores.
LOOK AT ALL THE PEOPLE BUYING IPHONES. LOOK AT THEM.
The 5C does look pretty great in videos. Nice and colourful.
iOS 7: people like it.
5 days after launch, 200 million devices were running iOS 7. Fastest software upgrade in history. 2/3 of the devices are running iOS 7.
iTunes Radio: Justin Timberlake likes it. As do customers. 20 million users so far.
13 billion dollars paid to devs on the App Store.
Mac: they exist and some people buy them.
This part of the keynote is always boring. Looong and boring.
Making some digs at the PC competition. They’re confused, apparently.
Exciting new Mac products to kick things off. OSX. Craig Federighi.
Mavericksssssss
Power efficiency: up to an hour longer browsing the web, 90 minutes longer watching video (on the newest MBA, at least).
Compressed memory: 6GB of data can fit in 4GB of RAM. Can run more apps without slowing down.
Mavericks can also change the amount of memory allocated to graphics on integrated graphics chips. Very clever way to improve performance.
Supports OpenCL as well, which should further improve performance.
Got the richer notifications, the tabs on Finder and multiple displays now work in full screen.
Maps and iBooks as well. All old news.
Demo tyme.
New icons for iWork and iLife, I notice. Sexy.
(I’m joking, they’re horrible).
This is a boringgg demo. Just tell me when I can get Mavericks and how much I have to pay.
Website notifications: that’s pretty cool I guess.
Can remember your credit card information, which makes life much easier I guess.
The new calendar app looks nice. And it auto-adds locations and weather information for appointments.
Will also auto calculate travel time from your previous appointment. Clever.
Sending directions from your laptop to your phone is pretty cool as well.
They’re about to revolutionize pricing…Mavericks is FREE HELL YES
(I’d be annoyed if I had to pay, the features are way too limiting)
Free for all the peoples. ALL OF THEM. Available free, today. Brb I’m downloading.
Phil Schiller to speak about dem macbooks
Interesting fact: I am typing this on a MacBook Pro Retina and it is the greatest laptop ever made
He’s talking about the new-ish MacBook Airs to start with. People like it.
MacBook Pro time. They’re gonna do a new one.
New 13 inch MBP. 3.46 pounds (that’s light). 0.71 inches thin (that’s thin).
Uses Intel Haswell. 90% faster graphics and up to 9 hours of battery life.
That includes iTunes movie playback, which is awesome. (except he called The Dark Knight “The Black Knight” so now I hate him).
New Thunderbolt 2. Twice as fast.
$1299: $200 cheaper than last model.
2.4GHZ dual core i5, 128GB SSD, 4GB RAM. Ships today.
15 inch time.
Intel Crystalwell: quad core.
Up to 8 hours of battery life.
$1999: again, $200 cheaper.
That’s a 256GB SSD. Ships today.
So now they’ve got two MBA, two MBP. Nice.
Nowwwwwww let’s talk about iPads?
Nope, Mac Pro. The cylinder thing.
Talking about how amazing it is.
Next-Generation Xeon processor. 4,6,8 or 12-core. Super fast.
bigass memory that goes up to 64GB and it user-accessible
Dual-workstation GPUS. 7 teraflops. That sounds like a lot.
I do not know what any of these numbers are
Up to 1TB of flash storage. Wow.

Up to three 4K displays. Wow?
4 USB 3 ports, two ethernet, bluetooth 4.0, badass.
They’ve given some industry pros an early look at it: surprise, they like it!

all the pros like it Apple we get it
Oh dayum, $2999. 12GB RAM, 3.7GHZ quad core processor, 2GB VRAM, 256GB SSD. Not bad.
Available before the end of this year.
Environmentally friendly, of course.
It’s very quiet, as well. As quiet as the Mac Mini, in fact.
Assembled in the USA, which they’re very proud of. 2000 US jobs.
Video to show how they made it.
Apple’s manufacturing videos are always awesome.
Dat aluminium. Looks so good.
I guess it is pretty cool that they’re creating US jobs.
iPad time?
Nope, Eddy Cue.
Apps. Apps apps apps apps.
iLife first.
New versions for both iOS and OSX.
All are 64 bit on the Mac. Cleaner and nicer looking on iOS as well.

iMovie: better UI on iOS, and desktop class effects such as picture in picture on iPhone and iPad.
Better UI on Mac as well, and better slow-mo/sped up video.
iMovie Theater: takes all the movies and trailers and shares them via iCloud. Basically a better way to browse.
Garageband: 32 tracks on iOS – pretty great. New design and new sound library on Mac.
Can start a song on your Mac, and it will sync to iPhone and iPad. Cool.
New feature called Drummer. Will automatically add a drum backing to your music. Cool?
You can direct the virtual drummer called “Kyle”. What is going on here.
This is working really well though, it’s so cool.
Pretty great way to add drums to your songs.
Can buy new drummers, who have different styles, with in-app purchases.
iLife: free with any new Mac or iOS device, all the updates are available today.
iWork time. The iOS icons looks great, the Mac icons are horrible.
Full file compatibility: iOS, Mac, and Web
64 bit as well. Fastttt.
UI is nicer, and more powerful.
Format bar at the top of the keyboard on the iPad, new format panel on the Mac that’s content sensitive. Nice.
Much easier to do stuff as well.
In Numbers, everything looks a lot nicer, and the charts are interactive. Which is sweet.
Keynote: new effects and animations.
Object based animations, even on iPhone and iPad. Looks nice.
Fireworks!
Another demo.
Haha, they’re making a poster for Eddy Cue’s “new album”. Pretty funny.
Seems a lot easier to do what used to be very complicated.
Can email links via iCloud, which is pretty great.
Oh, they’re adding collaboration to iWork to iCloud. Nice.
Two people are editing the document in real time.
This is better than anything on Google Drive, I think. More seamless…
Well, that’s that done.
All of iWork is free with any new Mac or iOS device.
All the updates are out today.
Tim Cook’s back.
iPad time.
“Our most advanced technology in a revolutionary and magical device.”
Some people said it wasn’t going to replace netbooks. “Who remembers netbooks?” LOL

Thin. So thin. 7.5mm thin.
Only weighs 1.0 pound. Lightest full-size tablet in da world.
Uses the A7, not the A7X.
And the M7 motion processor thing as well: same specs as the iPhone, basically.
