As an avid music lover, my main focus is in Indie rock and Indie-pop. So I have concocted a list of 5 Indie-rock or Indie-pop bands you probably haven’t heard of but absolutely deserve your time.
In my opinion there is nothing more amazing than a good Indie pop or rock band, something about this genre of music just reaches down and enlivens my soul (as ridiculous as that sounds). My first real big Indie love was when I picked up the first three albums from The Killers, within a couple of days I was head over heels for that band and that type of music. I am one of those people who cycle through genres months at a time, for instance before I really hit the Alternative/Indie rock scene I was into rap, and before that country. However, I think I finally hit a genre that I will not become disinterested in. Regardless, here are 5 bands that I highly implore you give a listen.
5. Wiretree – I recently picked up an album from this band titled “Bouldin” and an EP. Their most notable song (though it’s not my particular favorite) is called “Big Coat”. It’s a great song with awesome instrumental. This band is very entertaining and just a great listen.

4. Kaki King – I’m still relatively new to this band but what I’ve heard I really enjoy. The lead singer is actually a woman (so I suppose queen would have been more suiting) but the band is called so because her name is Katherine King. About half of her songs are just instrumental only but she does have a fantastic voice as well.

3. Tycho – Even though I’m really more into songs with lyrics, this band puts out the most chill and relaxing beats this side of the equator. A lot of electronics and stuff like this normally wouldn’t be my style at all but these guys, something about them just really shuts my brain off and lets my imagination run wild. A definite must hear for all you shipheads. Also Tycho has two Colorado shows coming here in November, one in Denver and one in Fort Collins for those of you who may be in the magical Talkingship Captain’s quarters.

2. Imagine Dragons – While this band is still quite young I believe they have serious potential to be an amazing band. Their first EP came out in March of ’10 and since then they have a five song album (which is basically an EP plus one) and a full length album titled “It’s Time” which was released in March of this year. Everything they have put out so far is great in my opinion and I can’t stress enough that my fellow shipmates give this band a listen. They are the best of this 5 in my opinion!

1. These United States – This is a band I only recently came across but quite simply cannot get enough of. I came across this band while listening to an Indie podcast and was impressed enough to check them out on Spotify. This band is vocally, instrumentally, and lyrically impressive not to mention they have a bad ass name. Besides the name, this band is very talented and they have some amazing songs and undoubtedly have a bright future.
