Default Oldboy: Breaking News!

Josh Brolin has just signed on the dotted line to be the lead in Spike Lee's remake of Park Chan-Wook's 2004 film Oldboy. Having seen the movie I could not be a whole lot happier that the movie is no longer in the hands of Steven Spielberg. I could have gone for the idea of Will Smith as the lead (not that I could picture him in such a graphic, and ultimately raunchy film) but regardless I believe that Josh Brolin brings a much needed presence of grit to the film. The original script has be re-drafted by Mark Protosevich who also wrote "I AM LEGEND" The Duo of Lee and Brolin has my hopes set high for this movie.

I love the original so much that the idea of any remake just frightens me. And Spike Lee is a director that just doesn't excite me anymore. Sure, his early films were daring, but not visually. It was the themes his films explored that were intriguing. Oldboy was visually stunning and inventive - nothing Spike Lee has ever done makes me think he is a visionary when it comes to cinematography.

I agree that its unnecessary, but I'm interested to see their play on the film. You know what I seen that killed me inside... Footloose, the remake. I got out of watching 30 seconds or less (which in an unrelated note was fucking hilarious and probably one of the bright spots of Danny McBride's acting career) and I seen the poster. You have got to be shitting me, they may as well go ahead and remake fucking Grease or Pulp fucking Fiction. Footloose, not only isn't that old but is a perfect movie for what it was. Not that it is anywhere in the league of Pulp Fiction, Grease maybe.

With the Hollywood is now I'll get to see 3 Star Wars remakes before I die, I may just kill myself after the second one.
Just think about it almost half of these great movie we watch each year will at some point be remade. WTF!
