Arizona GOP Raffles a Gun

The GOP in Arizona, in Gabby Giffords district, have decided to raffle off a gun to their supporters. The reason this is so controversial is that they are raffling off an exact copy of the gun used to kill 6 people and injure 13 others at a rally for Gabby Giffords a year ago. This raffle is taking place in her district, as a way to get more supporters for her opponents. Are you for FUCKING real?! This is unbelievable.

I don't think the GOP is doing this as a way to "celebrate" the shooting. But their defense is that they just didn't think about the connection, to which I can only assume means one of two things: 1) They are fucking idiots. 2) They knew this would become a controversy and wanted to use the controversy to try and persuade people that the Democrats want to take their guns away.

To me it seems obvious that what's going on here is the 2nd option. But even so, their tactics are fucking repugnant. I know that politics is a dirty game, but this is a new low.

My friend Tom was the English lad killed in Amarillo http://urltea.me/kj3 and I know if I found out there was an attempt to 'raffle' off a replica of the weapon used to kill him I'd be fucking furious, and I don't even want to think of what his family would make of it.

This is only going to make them look like fools as it spreads around your country and becomes a controversy like you say. As always the last people they've thought of are the families of the deceased. Cunts

Oh man, I read that article. What a horrible story. I hate that he came here, went to Texas, and got shot. That must have given a hell of a lot of people a terrible opinion of this country. Sad, sad story.

Thankfully I think we're a nation of bright enough people not to judge a country on a single event and on the whole we're very fond of America (many people wanted us to become a State rather than join our own useless European Union, which hasn't done the likes of Spain and Portugal any good!)

Obviously among some Texas has a stereotypical reputation for wild gun use and such, but since we're a nation of unarmed Police, anything would seem extreme to some extent. Dave at Sarcastic Gamer having an AK for example!

It certainly hasn't tarnished my opinion, and I know the family haven't changed theirs (Tom's Dad lives in Florida)

Anyway back to the Raffle, is this a fairly large story over there or just brewing? Something similar (knife for example) here would have the press going crazy I'd suspect.
