I know we are getting old, so I do remember vinyl albums. The artwork always fascinated me. Opening that big jacket to read the lyrics, see who my favorite bands thanked, see really cool pictures. and additional artwork was thrilling. Now, because of my age, the only album I really did that with was Mickey Mouse Christmas. But I do remember finding a stash of Doors, Pink Floyd, and Beatles albums of my dads. And for some reason, I also remember a John Denver album always laying around at Nerves' house, but moving on....
Then tapes. The same principle applied. I had lots of tapes. Then CD's, some of you youngsters may remember that music used to come on a disk.
While I am a fan of technological innovation, one casualty of this in the music industry is the album/tape/CD cover art and insert.
This is unfortunate, because the cover always set the mood for the album. It put a rough image in your head while you listened for the first time to a new CD. At least until that CD became associated with a girl then all bets were off, but that's another story altogether.

I've found great bands solely based on browsing the CDs in Woodmar Records. "Oh that looks cool, I'll buy that". That's how I found Pantera, who is still my number one favorite band of all time and sealed my fate as a metal head for all time. Also Entombed, Dangerous Toys, and Poison were tape/CD cover purchases. Of course, I got some stinkers this way too, see Brutal Truth.

So I was happy to see this email subject come across my desk: What Are The 10 Greatest Roadrunner Album Covers? (http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/news/Countdown-To-The-Greatest-Album-Cover-in-Roadrunner-History-21088.aspx) Of course I clicked and for a week and a half I looked forward to the next album.

The list is not that impressive being limited to only RR albums, so I want to know what you Shipheads think are the best album covers of all time.

I'm going to start with some of my favorites in no particular order:

Houses of the Holy, Led Zepplin
Dark Side of the Moon, Pink Floyd
In the Court of the Crimson King, King Crimson
Rust In Peace, Megadeth
..And Justice for All, Metallica
Far Beyond Driven, Pantera
